Decision on e-birth certificates in July
Manama : The launch of e-birth certificates will be finalised in July, according to officials. Health Ministry in cooperation with eGovernment Authority has planned to begin the service of issuing birth certificates through electronic methods.
The decision to provide e-birth certificates was announced during a joint meeting between representatives of the House of Representatives, Health Ministry and the eGovernment Authority recently.
This service represents a fully integrated electronic system in which birth certificates can be issued electronically from private and public hospitals. “It will eliminate the need of manual hand-outs with the attendance of the certificate reviewers,” officials said.
Health Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary for Training and Planning Dr. Mohammed Amin Al Awadi said that “the system saves time, reduces procedures and days it takes to register new births and issue birth certificates.”
He pointed out that earlier, 48 hours after the birth of a child, it took nearly four weeks to manually register the child. “The employees of the Health Ministry, Bahrain Defence Force hospital, King Hamad University Hospital and private hospitals have received comprehensive training by the eGovernment Authority.”
He explained that certificate reviewers will be able to use the services while they are at home. “Data accuracy and validity will improve with this service,” he added.
