Hezbollah, Iran supporters in Bahrain case adjourned

ManamaThe High Criminal Court has adjourned the trial of 18 men, charged with favouring Iran and terrorist organisation Hezbollah, until September 28.

The Bahrainis, aged between 28 and 59, are said to have created a group, “Al Basta Group,” which had links with Al Wafa Al Islamic Stream, also a terrorist group. However, only 10 men are in police custody, while the remaining suspects are still at large and are being tried in absentia.

According to court files, the Al Basta Group was formed by 33-year-old twin brothers Ali Ahmed Fakhrawi and Mohammed Ahmed Fakhrawi. “The group attracted the other defendants, and was working on inciting the public against the government. They also spread false statements as well as inflammatory promotions calling for the change of the regime.”

In the court hearing that began on Tuesday, prosecutors said the group members had met leaders of Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Hezbollah, during which they received financial aid and technical support to carry out criminal activities across the Kingdom. The group is said to have provided them with confidential reports on Bahrain.
