Teacher killed, her three children wounded in terrorist blast in East Eker
Manama : A Bahraini teacher was killed in front of her children in a terrorist blast that occurred in East Eker on Thursday night. The three children, who were with her in the car, sustained injuries.
Interior Ministry confirmed in a statement that they were hit by shrapnel from the blast in the village located at the south of the capital.
The victim was identified as Fakhriya Muslim, 42, an Arabic teacher in Al Noor International School, and a resident of Sitra.
The blast apparently took place when the woman’s car was passing near an ATM machine, where the bomb was planted.
DT News has learnt that one of the injured children was a 12-year-old girl. However, there was no further confirmation about the children’s condition.
Fakhriya was mourned by hundreds of her students, colleagues, family members and friends on different social media platforms. Many recalled her as a compassionate individual with an infectious smile.
Family members informed that her body would be laid to rest in Sitra Al Kharjiya graveyard today at 3.30pm.
It’s noteworthy that this is the third terrorist attack to claim lives in East Eker during the Holy Month of Ramadan in three consecutive years.
A policeman was killed in a similar attack during Ramadan in July, 2014, and an 18-year-old Bahraini boy was killed by a bomb while he was planting it to kill policemen in the same village last Ramadan (July 15, 2015).
Meanwhile, Capital Governorate Police General Directorate Colonel Khalid Al Thawadi offered his condolences to the family of the deceased.
“The Crime Scene Investigation team and other security authorities responded to the blast area shortly after the case was reported to the Operations Room. An investigation has been initiated to identify the culprits,” Al Thawadi added.
