Bahrain toddler found dead in car : No criminal act

ManamaThe three-year-old boy, who was found dead in a car boot in Hidd on Tuesday, died of heat exhaustion and suffocation, says Public Prosecution’s investigation report. It revealed that  there was no criminal act in the death of the Egyptian child, Feras Mohammed.

Child and Family Acting Chief Prosecutor Amina Isa confirmed that “the coroner’s report showed that no traces or signs of being subjected to physical violence or assault were found on the boy’s body.”

“The results of examination of toxins and drugs were negative. The cause of death was confirmed to be lack of oxygen in the vehicle’s trunk,” Isa informed.

She also explained that “two fingerprints that belonged to the boy were detected on the outside and bottom edges of the car’s trunk.”

However, the official didn’t confirm if the boy locked himself inside the car boot by mistake. She only added that investigations were going on.

According to a statement issued by the Public Prosecution on Thursday, a notification was received from Muharraq Police Directorate on Tuesday, stating that a driver found the dead body in the trunk of his car.

The prosecution’s statement read, “The driver parked his vehicle near the building he’s residing. He didn’t leave the house until the next day. He sensed a foul smell while going to his workplace on Tuesday. When he opened the car boot, he found the dead boy.”

“The prosecution was informed that Muharraq Police Directorate had been notified about a missing case of a three-year-old child, one day prior to the discovery of the dead body. The prosecution immediately assigned the concerned teams and departments to examine the scene to determine the cause of death,” it added.

Moreover, Isa said that one of the witnesses had seen the boy playing near the car on Monday evening. “The witness mentioned in his testimony that he had asked the boy to “go back home” but the boy rejected.”

“He also recalled that he had seen the same car owner forgetting to lock his car’s boot a few days before the incident,” she said.

DT News reported on Wednesday that Feras was found dead in the car trunk, less than 24 hours after his father reported him missing in Hidd area. The boy’s body was buried on Thursday in Muharraq Graveyard.
