Two men jailed in fraud case

Manama : The High Criminal Court has sentenced two Asian men to three years behind bars each on charges of fraud as they withdrew money using the bank ATM card of another man.

According to the case, the duo are said to have got a wallet from the road. While rummaging it, they found the ATM card with its pin code. Then they withdrew BD220 from an ATM counter using the card. 

Meanwhile, the owner of the wallet contacted the bank immediately after he lost his wallet, but nobody picked up his call. 

“I tried to contact the bank officials to inform them about my lost ATM card and disconnect the card,” the victim told police. “Later, I received two text messages in my phone stating that cash amount of BD200 and BD20 was withdrawn from my account respectively,” he added. 

The accused were arrested after examining the CCTV cameras installed in the ATM from where they had withdrawn the money. 

After the arrest, they denounced each other for committing the crime. The first defendant blamed that his co-defendant had requested him to withdraw the money, as he was ignorant of how to use it. But the CCTV camera footage showed both of them standing inside the ATM centre.
