Piece of shrapnel drilled through head

Manamapiece of shrapnel that pierced through the head of the Bahraini woman led to her death, revealed an initial inquiry report yesterday. The woman, Fakhriya Muslim, was killed in the terrorist blast that occurred near Nuwaidrat roundabout in East Eker on Thursday.

Citing the medical examiner’s report, Terror Crimes Prosecution Advocate General Hamad Shaheen said, “A piece of bomb shrapnel ripped through the head of the victim, as she was driving her car on the other side of the road, which caused her death.”

Three children, who were with her in the car, have also sustained injuries due the terrorist bomb explosion.

A coroner commissioned by the Public Prosecution conducted a post mortem on the victim. According to the official, there was an irregularly-shaped wound caused by the shrapnel, which pierced the head from left to right, leaving an exit injury.

The Public Prosecution had launched an inquiry soon after the blast. Officials examined the crime scene and the victims’ car in the presence of the forensic experts.

A study of the blast wave showed that the flying fragmentation shrapnel pierced the victims’ car and damaged shops on the other side of the road. The Public Prosecution commissioned forensic lab and crime scene experts to examine samples collected from the site of the incident to determine the explosive type, power, range and components.

The Public Prosecution has also ordered the Criminal Investigation Directorate to step up its inquiry to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
