Plans to expand Sh. Zayed Highway

Manama :The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning is planning to revamp and expand the Sh. Zayed Highway to avoid traffic congestion in A’Ali and Salmabad.

The project is considered to be one of the most important strategic road projects, as it will link the two areas to Sh. Khalifa bin Salman Highway, according to Roads Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry Huda Fakhro.

The Sh. Zayed Revamp and Expansion Project is supported by Abu Dhabi Development Fund and is part of the Gulf Development Programme.

Fakhro met with a delegation from UAE yesterday to discuss cooperation between the two nations in the field of roads infrastructure and provided them with a detailed explanation about the project. 

“The project will provide easy access to the stadium in Khalifa Sports City and will also avoid traffic congestions in front of the Driving School. Also, the flyover that will be constructed along Sh. Zayed Highway at its interchange with Sh. Khalifa bin Salman Highway will link Isa Town and Sanad Districts to the Northern Governorate,” she said.

Project details

Phase 1 comprises of expanding the highway into three lanes on each direction; starting from 16 December Avenue and ending at Sh. Khalifa bin Salman Highway, in addition to the point from the Western Roundabout (near Salmabad Roundabout) till Sh. Isa bin Salman Highway.

Phase 2 comprises of expanding Sh. Zayed Highway from the West to meet with Sh. Isa bin Salman Highway at its intersection with Avenue 27 leading to Saar. 

It also includes constructing flyovers along Sh. Zayed Highway and Sh. Salman Highway Interchange nearby the Traffic General Directorate, Sh. Zayed Highway- Sh. Khalifa bin Salman Interchange and Sh. Zayed Highway- Sh. Isa bin Salman Highway Interchange at the meeting points of Saar on the West and Salmabad on the East.
