Qassim’s deportation likely to face legal tangle : MP
Manama : The deportation of Isa Qassim, who was recently stripped of his Bahraini citizenship by the Interior Ministry, would not be a snap for authorities, if he challenged the decision in court. Moreover, he could also re-obtain his nationality.
According to Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee Member Jamal Buhassan, Qassim has the right as a Bahraini citizen to complain against the Ministry’s decision in court.
“His full rights are ensured like any other Bahraini citizen. No actions could be taken outside the framework of the law,” Buhassan, who recently demanded death sentence for Qassim for treason, told DT News yesterday.
The lawmaker’s response came following numerous posts on local social media networks demanding immediate deportation of Qassim.
“After revoking the citizenship of any individual, they (Bahraini citizens) have the right to appeal by filing an official complaint in court. These are pure judicial procedures. The judicial system in Bahrain is honest and independent,” Buhassan explained. “These cases could take years to be finalised by a judicial order,” the MP said, while mentioning the case of Taimor Karimi, a Bahraini man, who was stripped of his citizenship in 2012. But he was only deported by June 26 this year as per a court order. Karimi’s nationality was revoked along with 31 others.
