Speaker slams EU resolution against Bahrain
Manama : The European Parliament’s resolution against Bahrain was strongly condemned by the House of Representatives yesterday.
Responding to the resolution, Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Mulla commented that “the Bahraini authorities are more concerned about the protection of its people than the European Parliament and its resolutions”.
“The European Parliament’s recent resolution adopted during its session in Strasburg on Thursday, and its discussion on the human rights status in Bahrain, are against respecting the unity, independency and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Bahrain,” Al Mulla stated, adding that the resolution is against international pacts and agreements.
Al Mulla said: “It didn’t respect the gains of Bahrain mentioned in rights and developmental reports, which was submitted by the Kingdom to international organisations, including the United Nations.”
“Bahrain has been subjected to similar desperate campaigns. They will not affect our reforming march, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa,” he said.
“The procedures taken by the judicial and executive authorities recently came in line with the legislative authority’s efforts to reform political work. It’s also to clamp down on misusing religious platforms with the support of foreign parties,” Al Mulla added.
His response was to several false accusations made by the European Parliament in its resolution, which included alleged repression and arbitrary arrests.
