Thousands gather at Al Fateh Grand Mosque

Manama :  Over 2,300 people from different faiths and nationalities visited the Eid Al Fitr Open House at Al Fateh Grand Mosque.

Hundreds of non-Muslim visitors were given a tour of Al Fateh Grand Mosque, the Kingdom’s largest mosque, during the Eid Open house in the past two days.  The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs and was organised by the mosque officials and the Discover Islam Centre.

The visitors got a chance to try on traditional Arabic clothes and learn Islamic history. Dedicated sections were allotted for henna painting. Apart from the entertainment and educational activities the visitors were treated with traditional Bahraini sweets, cakes, pastries, dates, Arabic coffee and tea.

The open house is held every year aiming to promote better understanding and harmony between different faiths and cultures. Speaking to DT News, senior member of the organising committee Farahat Mohammed Al Kindy said that the first day of the open house saw majority of the visitors.

“The number of visitors on Saturday was around 1,500, but we are expecting fewer visitors on Sunday. About 20 per cent of the visitors were Filipino, 55pc were Indians and the rest were Europeans, Americans and other nationals. Henna painting section, scientific miracles of the Quran section and traditional dress corner were popular among visitors,” he said.

“We are dedicated to spread the message of peace, love and peaceful coexistence between all people,” he added.
