Edgar loses out to Aldo
Manama : Bahrain’s KHK MMA professional fighter Frankie Edgar lose out to Brazilian fighter Jose Aldo over five rounds for the interim 57kg featherweight title.
After five five-minute rounds, Edgar was unable to break his opponent and was suffering with a deep cut above his eye, and for the remainder of the bout the blood kept coming, made worse when in the third also was drawing blood from his nose.
Despite his best efforts, Edgar lost out 49-46, 49-46, 48-47 by the judges at the end of the contest.
Edgar entered the ring with strength and managed to control the pace, he was able to do the same with high spirits in the second round.
By the third round, Aldo became more defensive and using speed to his advantage enabling him to change the pace of the bout.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, the founder of KHK MMA watched the battles of the Ultimate Fighting Championship UFC200 in the presence of Dana White, President of the mixed martial arts organization Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Lorenzo Fertitta, CEO of UFC which concluded yesterday and praised the efforts of the organisation of event.
Shaikh Khalid praised the performance Edgar displayed against Aldo. He stressed Edgar fought ferociously inside the ring and strengthening the position of the Kingdom of Bahrain through the KHK MMA.
“Bahrain has succeeded in proving to everyone that it has evolved in the MMA sport in record time, thanks to the wise leadership giving support to the youth and the efforts of HH Shaikh Nasser, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee in developing the sports sector in Bahrain, which was clearly reflected on the achievements in MMA at various Asian and Global tournaments.”
