Works Ministry in power saving mode
Manama
The Building Maintenance Directorate at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning has replaced the normal lighting system at the Ministry’s main building No. 4 with power-saving LED lighting.
By taking this step, the Ministry managed to save 258kilo/Watt (20 per cent) of the total electrical loads. The results show that the rate of electrical loads has receded from 1174KW to 920.5KW.
Prior to the implementation of LED lighting; particularly in April 2014, the electricity consumption rate was 194,880KW/Hour, while in April 2015, it registered only 156,800KW/Hour.
The Building Maintenance Directorate has a number of future plans aiming to gradually transform government buildings into environment-friendly green buildings. The plans not only include replacing the normal lighting system with LED system, but also replacing the old windows with modern double-glazed windows equipped with sunlight insulator film and installing sensor water taps.
The initiative has already been adopted in four government buildings; namely: the Central Informatics Center in Isa Town, Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Labour. Works are expected to complete by beginning of next year.
