Investigations continue in “Quran Singing” incident

Manama

Investigations into the highly controversial “Quran Singing” incident that created a huge buzz among the public a few months ago, are still continuing to find the responsible parties behind it and prevent such episodes from recurring, it was announced yesterday.

This was stated in a meeting between the parliamentary committee to investigate the Quran singing incident and the talent contest jury members of the private school where the incident occurred.

As reported earlier, a video went viral last march showing a student singing verses of the Holy Quran, accompanied with music.

The act was highly condemned by a large sector of the society, as it was considered as an insult to the holy book.

The performance was part of a talent show competition organised by a private school in the Southern Governorate.

Following the public nuisance, Public Prosecution announced that several individuals, including a student and two teachers, were remanded in custody pending further investigations.

Later, on March 17, parliamentarians agreed to form a committee to investigate the incident.

Committee Head MP Ali Bufarsan yesterday said the committee asked the jury members to “take a closer look” at the procedures and regulations followed in such activities.

He also said the committee would meet representatives of Education Ministry’s Private Education and Services Directorates to stand on the administrative measures taken by the ministry in regards to the incident.

The other committee members include MPs Jamal Bu Hassan, Ahmed Qarata, Khalid Al Shaer, Theyab Al Nuaimi, Mohsen Al Bakry and Anas Buhindi.
