Embassy deny news of Saudi driver attack

Manama : Saudi Ambassador to Bahrain Dr Abdullah bin Abdul Malek Al Al-Sheikh rebuffed information circulating on social media that a Saudi citizen was attacked in Exhibitions Avenue during Eid Al Fitr.

The footage shows a group of people attacking a car a week ago.

However Dr Al-Sheikh told Saudi media that the incident was reported to the Embassy and Bahraini authorities have investigated the matter.

“It’s a simple traffic accident and not an attack. The matter has been finalised with the Bahraini authorities,” he told Saudi daily Al Youm.

“The embassy was informed about a traffic accident involving a Saudi citizen in Manama. It’s not an attempt to damage or vandalise. The embassy had followed up on the matter by the concerned Saudi Affairs personnel. Necessary procedures were taken in cooperation with the concerned Bahraini authorities.”

Dr Al-Sheikh’s statements came following the uproar on social media recently. The video showed men kicking the car and even hurling stones at it, while the driver drove on the pavement and hit a commercial signboard.

It was also claimed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Bahraini authorities were not available for a comment.
