Bahrain lose out to Jordan

ManamaBahrain’s National team ranked 117th lost 3-0 to hosts Jordan ranked 106th in its second Davis Cup match of its campaign in Pool B of Asia/Oceania Group IV on the clay courts at the Al-Hussein Sport City in Amman.

In the opening singles rubber, Jordan’s Seif Adas won a hard fought match lasting an hour and a half 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 against Yousif Qaed, who was making his first appearance in this season’s Davis Cup.

In the first set, Qaed was outplayed by Adas, but came back well in the second to level after being tied at 3-3 and then effecting two breaks of service.

The decisive third set was evenly poised at 3-3 before Adas wrapped up the set and the match. In the second singles rubber, Jordan’s Mousa Alkotop comfortably won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 against Hassan Abdulnabi as the host nation clinched the tie overall.

The doubles rubber was keenly fought with Hamzeh Al Aswad and Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmad Al Hadid edging out the Bahrain duo of Hassan Abdulnabi and Abdulkarim Abdulnabi 7-6(4), 6-4 in just over 80 minutes.

The other playing member of the Bahrain squad is 18-year old Elyas Abdulnabi.

In, Pool B match yesterday, Iraq edged out 121st ranked Mongolia 2-1.
