25 establishments violate summer work ban

ManamaAs many as 25 establishments have violated the summer outdoor work ban in two weeks.

Inspection and Trade Unions Director at Labour and Social Development Ministry Ahmed Al Hayki recently revealed that at least 56 labourers, working during the ban period, were detected since July 1.

The official stated that the Ministry has conducted 1,473 inspection visits to worksites since the ban was implemented.

He confirmed that the 25 establishments were referred to the Public Prosecution by the Ministry, adding that the violating employers would be fined BD500 for each worker found working during the ban.

However, Al Hayki also said that establishments’ commitment to the ban has reached 98 per cent in past two weeks.

DT News reported earlier that the annual ban imposed on outdoor work from 12pm to 4pm would continue till August 31, as per the law.

The Ministry warned violators that strict legal measures would be taken against them.

“According to Article 192 of Law 36/2012 promulgating the Labour Law in the Private Sector, violators of the summer outdoor work ban will face legal action of up to three months in prison and/or fines between BD500 and BD1,000,” the Ministry stated back then.

A total of 230 companies violated the ban last year. The Ministry conducted 13,915 inspection visits, which resulted in detecting 548 violating labourers working in the outdoors during the ban period.
