Three held for forgery, verdict on August 15

ManamaThe closing arguments in the trial of three men, including two traffic officers, who were accused of conning insurance companies, would be heard on August 15.

They cheated the company by forging accident reports of luxury cars.

The case came to light after the head of the claims department in an insurance firm tipped a captain in the General Directorate of Traffic about a suspicious accident report.

The complaint specified that the same report was sent earlier with a different date, and the owner of the car was paid BD23,000.

Investigations revealed that two traffic officers were involved in forging it in a bid to swindle the insurance company.

Further investigations found that the accidents were deliberately made in order to cancel the vehicles to claim money from the insurance companies since the value of the vehicles were far less than the demanded amount.

The officers had also forged the reason of the accidents to make the owners of the cars eligible to receive reparations.

However, according to court documents, they pleaded not guilty to fraud and forgery charges.
