Candle Light Vigil for Nice terror attack victims

ManamaA large number of people gathered on the premises of the French Embassy here yesterday to show their solidarity and offer prayers to the victims of the terror attack on Bastille Day in Nice, France recently. The Candle Light Prayer Vigil was organised by ‘This is Bahrain.’ 

Speaking on the occasion, Betsy Bennett Mathieson, Secretary General of the Bahrain Federation of Expatriate Associations (BFEA), said: “I have experienced an immense outpouring of emotion and  solidarity with the victims, their families and with the people of France at this latest atrocity. It shocked all.” “So our ‘This is Bahrain’ group took the initiative to hold a Candle Light Prayer Vigil outside the French Embassy to allow us to come together and offer our prayers.” 

“The Kingdom of Bahrain is a shining beacon of hope in a troubled world. Thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and his strong belief in the goodness of the human spirit,” she commented.

“We stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of France in their time of great sorrow. We also remember the victims of conflict everywhere in the world and send them our thoughts and prayers,” she added.

 Speaking to DT News, the French Ambassador to Bahrain, Bernard Régnauld-Fabre, said, “I want to express my gratitude for the amazing number of people who turned up tonight to show their solidarity with the French people. This shows that people are not accepting this challenge of fear.”

“This commemoration of the residents of Bahrain is very significant. I can see people from all origins, French citizens and many Bahrainis. I can see clerics, civilians, journalists, artists and people from all societies here tonight. This is really good to see that Bahrain is massively against these types of actions,” he opined. 

Fawzia Zainal, Member of the Head Organising Committee of ‘This is Bahrain’ said: “We are standing in front of the French Embassy to offer our condolences to the citizens and victims of the Nice. We want to tell them that we are from the land of love and peace provided to us by the wise leadership, which values security and safety.”
