Bahrain launch electronic birth documentation

Manama : Bahrain has launched electronic birth documentation. Health Ministry (MoH), in collaboration with the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), launched the ‘Request for Birth Certificate’ e-service via e-kiosks at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) yesterday.

Launching the programme, Health Minister Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh commended the cooperation between the Ministry and the iGA to provide quality services to the public by simplifying procedures.

She also highlighted that the development plans and quality services come in compliance with the directives of the government, especially the attention paid by Deputy King HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

iGA CE Mohammed Ali AlQaed said the launch comes in compliance with Prince Salman’s directives to update the information systems, providing e-services to citizens.

He also indicated that such initiative aimed to complete the development of the second batch of the e-kiosks project, which HRH the Crown Prince launched its first batch – 15 revamped eKiosks in 10 government entities – in May.

The ‘Request for Birth Certificate’ e-service is available in all hospitals via Bahrain.bh, while the eGovernment kiosks are only currently located in government hospitals. The kiosks offered for everyone to benefit from the services, especially those who do not have access to computers or the Internet.

Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Aysha Mubarak Buaneq, Council of Representatives Services Committee Chairman Abbas AlMadhi, MP Ali Al Ateesh, and Shura Council member Services Committee Chairwoman Dr. Jihad Al Fadhel were also present.

How does it work?

The applicant receives an SMS that contains the newborn’s personal number (following the completion of registering the newborn’s data by the hospital employee)

2 Then the applicant receives a form from the hospital.

Through the e-service, the citizen is then able to enter the notification number, which has been received from the hospital along with the personal number via SMS.

The number of required copies of the Birth Certificate and the residential address are then determined.

The system will calculate the fees according to the number of copies.

The applicant must then electronically pay the fees and obtain a receipt.

The e-service can reduce the period from three weeks to five working days.
