Saudi foil 65 smuggling attempts during Eid holidays

Manama : A total of 65 smuggling attempts from Bahrain to Saudi Arabia through King Fahd Causeway were foiled during the recent Eid holidays, Saudi authorities announced yesterday.

The confiscated items from passengers by the Saudi Customs included liquor bottles, banned animal drugs and live birds, wrought gold, cosmetics and petroleum products. London-based Arabic daily Al Hayat quoted King Fahd Causeway Saudi Customs General Director Dhaifallah Al Otaiby as saying, “Saudi Customs foiled several smuggling attempts between June 30 and July 10. About 188 bottles of liquor were seized, while other confiscated items included 600kg of banned animal dope, 4,694kg of wrought gold, 1100 live birds and 353 cosmetics’ units. All these items were detected in vehicles entering the Kingdom through the Causeway.”

Al Otaibi mentioned that 272,145 vehicles entered Saudi Arabia from Bahrain through King Fahd Causeway during the same period.
