Court adjourns trial in burning tyre case

ManamaThe trial of six defendants  who were arrested for burning tyres has been adjourned to August 16 by the High Criminal Court.

According to the case, the defendants along with other unknown men allegedly set tyres on fire to disrupt traffic and cause panic in Tubli on April 4 this year.

Police officers identified seven men in connection with the incident, but only six defendants were arrested. The seventh defendant is still at large.

They have been accused of arson, participating in an illegal gathering, committing sabotage acts. The first defendant told prosecutors that his fifth co-defendant telephoned him about the incident. Thus he took part in it.

“I carried the tyres and put them on the road. The second defendant poured petrol on them. The fifth defendant set them on fire,” the first defendant revealed. The fourth defendant was granted bail on guarantee of his place of residence.
