Asian woman 'used' as drug career for Bahraini
Manama : A Bahraini man had apparently ‘used’ a Thai woman to smuggle drugs into Bahrain.
The duo was caught following a tip-off received by the Interior Ministry’s Anti-Narcotic Department.
They had landed in Bahrain from Thailand on January 16 and were arrested on the same day, after shabu weighing almost 1.64 kg was found hidden in her bag.
As per court files, the man had gone to Thailand to buy shabu and assigned the woman to smuggle it into Bahrain.
When nabbed by the airport’s security personnel, the woman immediately confessed that she had brought the illicit drugs for the man.
However the woman claims that she was innocent and was not aware what was in the bag.
“I met him (the Bahraini man) in Pattaya, Thailand. He gave me 30,000 Thai baht (around BD320). He also gave me a pink bag and told me to visit him in Bahrain. He then requested me to bring the bag to Bahrain. I didn’t know what was inside the bag,” the woman said during interrogation.
During a raid later, more drugs were found stashed in the man’s apartment.
