Ministry rejects false reports on child rights

ManamaThe Labour and Social Development Ministry has informed that the reports appeared in some local newspapers recently on Bahrain’s index regress in the field of child rights was based on inaccurate information released by unknown organisation.

In a statement yesterday, it stressed that the ministry and the National Child Committee are the only parties that have all statistics related to the rights of the child.

According to the statement, both parties are currently following up the implementation of the national strategy for children and preparing Bahrain’s fourth and fifth periodic national report on the Kingdom’s progress in protecting children. “We are carrying out the international Convention on the Rights of the Child, which will be discussed at the UN headquarters in Geneva in 2017.”

Bahrain signed the convention in 1991 and submitted its second and third reports to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 2012.

The ministry said that the Kingdom’s achievements in protecting children are advanced. “It will be documented clearly based on statistics in Bahrain’s report, which will be submitted to the CRC,” the statement added.
