Court denies plea in embezzlement case
Manama : The High Criminal Appeals Court declined the appeal of an Asian man accused of embezzling BD1,000 from a company.
The defendant allegedly received the aforementioned sum in order to obtain a visa for one of the company’s employees.
However, the 32-year-old man didn’t complete the task and kept the money with him. The incident happened in April this year, according to court files.
When the company owner’s efforts to get back the money failed, he approached the police.
“We wanted to get a visa for one of our employees. We were told that he (the defendant) was capable of accomplishing such a job. He requested us to pay him BD1,000 in order to complete the formalities,” the owner of the company said. “After receiving the money, he averted our calls.”
The accused was earlier sentenced to three months behind bars.
