Bombing suspect dies of cardiac arrest

detainee, who was held over terrorism charges, died in Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) yesterday after developing cardiac complications.

An Interior Ministry  statement yesterday confirmed the death of Hassan Al Hayki, who is one of the three suspects accused of masterminding the deadly East Eker terrorist bombing.

The blast resulted in the death of a Bahraini woman and injured three of her children.

Thirty-five-year-old Al Hayki died due to natural causes at the SMC, said General Director of Reformation and Rehabilitation Colonel Yussef Hassan Al Arab. He added that the deceased suffered from a medical condition and was transferred to SMC within 10 minutes.

Al Hayki died while being treated at the hospital, the statement said.

The General Director offered his condolences to the family of the deceased and said the Public Prosecutor has been informed. Meanwhile, Opposition groups have questioned the Ministry’s statement, claiming that Al Hayki was tortured to death.

However, the Ministry proved that his death was due to natural causes. Additionally, sources in SMC informed that he died due to a cardiac arrest.
