Abducted Indian girl reunited with family
Manama : The ordeal of the abducted Indian girl’s family finally came to an end as the police arrested two kidnappers yesterday. Five-year-old Sarah united with the family after more than 24 hours of suspense. Sarah was reportedly kidnapped from her mom’s car in Hoora on Tuesday night, when the mother had gone out of the car to buy water from a cold store.
The culprits apparently drove off the vehicle with the girl, who was sitting in the backseat. The Interior Ministry stated that they had captured the abductors-- a man and a woman, without revealing their identities.
Meanwhile, Capital Governorate Police General Directorate Colonel Khalid Al Thawadi revealed that the kidnappers were a Bahraini man, 38, and an Asian woman, 37.
He explained that a team of 25 patrol vehicles was assigned to search for the girl. “Police initiated their investigations as soon as the case was reported. The kidnappers were identified and the child was found at the woman’s residence in Hoora. The Public Prosecution was notified about the incident and legal proceedings are being taken,” Col. Al Thawadi added.
Speaking to DT News, the girl’s uncle, Anish Charles, confirmed that she’s in good health. They received the girl from Hoora police station last night.
“We have been told to come to the police station in the morning. The details of the kidnappers were not shared with us. We also didn’t meet them,” Charles informed. “During the abduction, the girl was only given a packet of chips and some juice,” he said, adding that the abductors are in police custody now.
As the whereabouts of the girl remained a mystery, the Interior Ministry had earlier informed that her mother’s car was found near Hoora police station.
Father’s role suspected?
Earlier, when asked about Sarah’s father’s involvement in the incident, Charles replied: “He’s currently in India and there’s no way that he could plan or do this.”
“Sarah is the only child in the family. Her parents got divorced around three years ago. Her father then left the country after relinquishing his parental rights. What’s being circulated about her father accusing him of the abduction is baseless,” he clarified.
Rumour mills
Charles had posted pictures of the girl and the stolen vehicle, along with its registration number plates on his Facebook page before approaching the police.
The pictures were widely circulated by netizens. However, some of them shared false information about the girl, her family and the kidnapping situation.
Rebuffing the rumours, Charles had posted on Facebook saying, “A rumour claiming that she has been found is doing rounds on WhatsApp. Such rumours should not be believed or spread as it would negatively affect the investigation.”
Poignant appeal
However, Charles had pleaded to the unknown kidnappers to release his niece, promising to let them scot-free.
“Whoever has taken my baby, please drop her near any mall or public place with my number on a paper. We will not charge you with anything. We won’t even try to find out you...please...please. It’s a desperate plea,” Anish wrote on Facebook.
