Saudi foils smuggling attempt from Bahrain
Manama : The Saudi authorities have recently foiled an attempt to smuggle 4.6kg gold from Bahrain to Saudi Arabia.
The seized gold was detected in a vehicle that was entering Saudi Arabia through the King Fahd Causeway, revealed the Saudi Customs.
According to the officials, the gold was found inside specially made compartments installed in the vehicle.
“The gold was stashed in the interior decorations of the car and the front bumpers.
They were hidden in a professional way,” King Fahd Causeway Saudi Customs General Director Dhaifallah Al Otaiby revealed to Saudi media.
He added that the smuggling attempt was aimed to avoid Customs taxes, especially as it was such a big quantity.
“Travellers will be subjected to legal accountability if they do not inform the authorities about the gold items in their possession,” Al Otaiby warned.
Smuggling liquor and other contrabands through the King Fahd Causeway are being reported frequently. Sometimes even human trafficking is also done via the causeway. However, most of these smuggling attempts have been foiled owing to the alertness of the authorities.
Meanwhile, no comments were made by the Bahraini authorities, as the Customs in this side of the causeway is only concerned about travellers entering the Kingdom.
