Bahrain’s telecom in global spotlight

ManamaWhen it comes to  providing top-notch telecommunication service, Bahrain is second to none in the Arab region.

The latest e-Government Readiness Report 2016 of the United Nation published this July simply confirms this.

The report ranks Bahrain 11th globally in the telecommunications infrastructure index, a big improvement from the 24th rank in 2014.

The value of Bahrain’s telecommunications infrastructure index is now 0.7762, with the highest possible score being 1 in 2016, compared to 0.4183 in 2012, increasing by 86 per cent.

Progress in telecommunications infrastructure contributed strongly to the Kingdom’s e-government readiness index reaching 0.7734 in 2016 compared to 0.6946 in 2012, the report says.

Commenting on the achievement, Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), Dr. Mohammed Al Amer congratulated Bahrain’s Government and emphasized that work should be continued to maintain progress and achievements.

The Global Information Technology Report 2016 issued by the World Economic Forum in Geneva, in collaboration with INSEAD University’s Business School early last July, shows that Bahrain has ranked 24th globally in the ICT Usage Sub-index, which measures the readiness of the three pillars (individuals, business and the government) to use ICT. In this context, Bahrain has ranked 4th globally in mobile broadband penetration and 5th in mobile penetration.

With Bahrain being named the “Best Progress Award” winner in the ICT development index by the International Telecommunications Union at the Global ICT Forum in Hiroshima, Japan last November, this latest recognition comes as the latest in a string of world recognised successes for the Kingdom.
