Bahraini jailed for riots
Manama : The five-year jail sentence of a Bahraini man convicted of setting a police car on fire has been upheld.
The defendant was among the eight others, who faced trial in this case. However, the Bahraini man was held guilty in absentia and is still at large.
According to the case, officers of Budaiya Police Station were attacked by protesters with iron rods and firebombs during a riot in Hamad Town on May 20, 2013.
“Around 40 men took part in the riot, but only the identities of eight culprits have been revealed,” prosecutors
said.
The first defendant told prosecutors that he had received an SMS on the day of the incident from a group named Duraz Youth Movement requesting him to participate in the riot.
It’s worth noting that the convicts were earlier fined a combined total of BD645 for the damage they caused to the vehicle.
