Smuggling drugs into Bahrain jail: Visitor in custody

ManamaThe High Criminal Court has renewed the detention of a suspect accused of trying to smuggle drugs into Jaw Prison by 15 days.

According to court files, a police officer caught a visitor with drugs that was intended to hand over to an inmate. The man’s suspicious behaviour prompted the officials at Jaw Prison to question him.

The incident was reported to the  Anti-Narcotic Department at the Ministry of Interior.

When questioned, he revealed about two hidden narcotic capsules. But when frisked, 17 capsules were found in his possession.

“I received a phone call from an inmate in Jaw Prison. He requested me to bring the drugs when I visit my brother, who was also jailed in Jaw Prison. He told me to pick up the drugs from a place in Riffa, where the drugs were hidden near a trash-bin,” the defendant told prosecutors.
