Rumours on Bahrain MPs' allowance rejected
Manama : The Parliament General Secretariat yesterday dismissed claims about a nonexistent office allowance for parliamentarians.
The secretariat clarified in statement issued yesterday that “no such allowance exists.”
“MPs are paid BD4,250 monthly, not BD4,750 as claimed by some media platforms,” the secretariat said in a statement.
BD1,200 is the only representation allowance they receive every month. Apart from this they are also paid a monthly allowance of BD2,000, a social allowance of BD300 and a transportation allowance of BD750.
These allowances are regulated by Law 15 of 2002 in regards to Parliament and Shura Council, the statement added.
The secretariat’s explanation came in response to claims made by some MPs, alleging that Parliament’s Genera Secretariat has stopped granting MPs a monthly BD500 office allowances.
These claims were also reported by some Arabic dailies in the Kingdom as well.
