After stroke, Bahrain expat regains consciousness

ManamaThe Philippines national, June Mercado, who was found unconscious in his apartment a day after he suffered a stroke, has regained his consciousness. Last month, a casual visit by his friends at Delmon International Hotel to enquire about him, as he did not turn up for duty that day saved his life.

Though they took him to hospital, he remained unconscious. He has been receiving treatment from Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMR).

His brother and sister, who flew in from Philippines a few days ago, were beside him when he regained consciousness.

“When he saw his siblings, he became very emotional,” said President of Proudly Pinoy OFW Group Rod Paje, who has been helping Mercado and his family.

“Mercado was scheduled for a tracheotomy earlier this week but it could not be done as he suffered from a severe cough. Now he can breathe himself, so doctors removed the ventilator,” the Filipino social worker said.

“Unfortunately, doctors informed that he would remain paralysed. I do not know if he can recover from this situation. But certainly we are hoping and praying for his health. He is the breadwinner of his family,” Paje added.

Mercado, who is in his early thirties, was working as a waiter in Delmon International Hotel.

DT News reported on August 3 the plight of Mercado. The HR officer at Delmon International Hotel had earlier informed that the company was doing everything it can to support Mercado and his family.
