Cops murder attempt defendants jailed

Manama :  The jail sentences of three defendants convicted of attempting to murder police officers in Duraz have been upheld by the Supreme Appeals Court. They were earlier sentenced to 15 years behind bars each.

Twenty-two defendants were tried in connection with this case, all of whom were handed down 15 years’ imprisonment. One accused was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The suspects are said to have assaulted police officers with improvised weapons. They set a police patrol on fire while police officers were inside the vehicle.

Two police officers were injured after they were shot with homemade arms.

According to court files, the defendants used iron rods and they fired nails at police officers using fire extinguishers during the attack.

Around 100 protesters participated in the assault. However, only 22 suspects have been identified in connection with the case.

It’s said that the miscreants broke the camera of a television channel cameraman, who was at the scene to cover the incident.
