BD13k proposed for stray dog issue

ManamaAt least BD 13, 000 is required to solve the existing stray dogs issue in the country, revealed in a meeting held by officials yesterday.

Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry’s Undersecretary of Municipalities Affairs Dr. Nabil Mohammed Abu al Fath held a meeting with a number of heads of municipal affairs and other officials.

During the meeting, it was stressed that the ministry would cooperate with concerned authorities like the Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) to implement an immediate plan to curb the growing number of stray dogs in a few residential areas.

Officials explained that the plan is to adopt a budget of BD13,000 to provide cages and vehicles for transporting and collecting stray dogs and take special measures in coordination with the Society.

 Abu Al Fath stated that “based on the directives of Minister Essam Khalaf, the ministry will leave no stone unturned to adopt all resources and capabilities to address this issue.”

Northern Municipal Council Chairman Mohammed Buhamoud said that there will be a comprehensive framework to address and control the number of stray dogs.

Southern Municipal Council Chairman Ahmed Al Ansari called for concerted efforts to face the problem. 

Meanwhile, Muharraq Municipal Council Vice Chairman Mohammed Khalifa Herz presented statistics reviewing estimation of stray dogs and the best ways to tackle the issue as per the practices that have been found.

The meeting was organised close on the heels of an incident in which a Bahraini girl was attacked and stripped of her clothes by stray dogs near Sitra Industrial Area recently.
