Traffic officers held for forgery

Manama Three men, including two traffic officers are accused of cheating insurance firms by forging accident reports involving luxury cars.

The case, under trial, came to light after the head of the claims department of an insurance company tipped off a captain in the General Directorate of Traffic about a suspicious accident report.

The same report was sent earlier with a different date, and the owner of the car was paid BD23,000.

Further investigations revealed that the two traffic officers were involved in creating false accident reports in a bid to swindle the insurance company.

According to court documents, the officers also forged the reason of the accidents, suggesting different events and circumstances
to make the owners of the cars eligible to receive reparations.

It was also found that accidents were deliberately made in order to get financial compensations from the insurance companies.

Prosecution will hear the trial on September 19. The accused have pleaded not guilty to fraud and forgery charges.
