The High Criminal Court yesterday booked September 28 to announce its verdict in the trial of 22 accused of unlawful possession of weapons.

The accused were allegedly among the 350 miscreants who attacked policemen with metal rods, stones and firebombs before running away from the scene on September 14 last year.

None of the suspects were nabbed from the scene, but police investigation uncovered the identity of six of them. It was the first accused who was initially nabbed by police.

He was reportedly in a dental clinic when police arrived to nab him. However, he evaded arrest by jumping out of the window of the clinic. He landed on a car that was parked below the clinic, causing damages to its body.

Though he tried to flee the scene on foot, he soon fell in police net.

During questioning, he confirmed participating in the attack, and also his links with the co-accused. He also guided police officers to a cache, where two boxes of armors and weapons were hidden.

The accused were charged with possessing arms without a license as well as rioting, participating in an illegal gathering and disturbing public peace.

The first accused is said to be implicated in 23 terror-related cases, and he was already sentenced to life in prison in one of the cases.
