UK media under fire for biased Bahrain reports
Manama : Some of the British media outlets came under criticism from the Bahraini group ‘Citizens for Bahrain’ for its biased reports about the Kingdom.
UK newspapers including The Guardian, The Observer and The Independent recently published reports criticising the UK government for supporting Bahraini security forces. The reports made remarks against Bahraini authorities and made claims about human rights abuses in the Kingdom.
Responding to the articles, Citizens for Bahrain pointed out that these newspapers have a track record of being biased against governments in the Gulf region.
“In many cases, the facts of the reporting are taken in their entirety from London-based opposition sources with whom many of these journalists enjoy an uncomfortably close relationship,” it stated.
The newspapers completely ignore the progress made by Bahrain, the group said, suggesting that should take a step outside the relentless opposition propaganda.
“Needless to say; these newspapers, which publish every tiny development which feeds into the anti-Bahrain agenda, never reported a word about major reforms this May which ban clerics (Sunni and Shia) from involvement in politics, putting Bahrain ahead of anywhere else in the region on the agenda of the separation of religion and the state,” Citizens for Bahrain stated.
