Juniors serve up fun, excitement at Dilmun

The semi-finals and finals of the Bahrain Tennis Academy (BTA) Junior Tennis Tournament, organised in partnership with Citi Bahrain, took place at the Dilmun Club, Saar yesterday evening in the 8 and 10 years and under categories along with a complete competition in the 12 years and under.

In the 8 years and under category, Rohan Mukherjee defeated Rushikesh Sonawane in straight sets in the first semi final, while Boudica Verbeek did likewise against Vyom Gupta in the other. In the final Rohan defeated Boudica 7-1, 8-6 games after easily winning the first set, but holding off a tough response in the second set.

In the 10 and under category, Owen Verbeek defeated his younger brother Miles Verbeek 4-0 games in the first semi final, while Rohan Mukherjee came from behind to win against Boudica Verbeek 4-3. In the final, Owen proved too strong for the younger Rohan winning 5-1.

In the 12 and under category, the players completed preliminary rounds in a round-robin format which saw Owen Verbeek and Anshuman Sonawane book their places in the finals by topping their respective groups. In a final, which saw some very high quality tennis played, Owen prevailed 6-1.

BTA and tournament director, Dan Barrie commented, “It was great to see such high quality tennis being played and in particular the excellent sportsmanship displayed by the kids and thanks to Citi Bahrain for its support in organising an event of this calibre."

Harpreet Arora, Citigold Segment and Business Development Head for Citi Bahrain, was on hand to present medals and trophies to the finalists. 

"It was a great opportunity for Citi to partner with BTA and promote the Junior Tennis Tournament. Congratulations to the team putting together a great event over the weekend. The kids had a great time and played very competitive games,” said Arora.

BTA and partners Citi Bahrain now shift their focus to the BTA Mixed Doubles Tournament on June 26 at the Dilmun Club.
