Civic body to remove abandoned vehicles in Northern Governorate

Manama : An official campaign will be launched in the next few days to remove abandoned vehicles in the Northern Governorate.Following the issue of abandoned and scrap vehicles escalated in the past few months in different areas of the governorate, Northern Area Municipal Council Chairman Mohammed Buhamood called upon vehicle owners to remove them at the earliest. He also noted that “the municipality will remove them soon.”

The announcement came yesterday after several complaints were received regarding the rise of abandoned vehicles in Salmabad, Hamad Town, Hamala, Janabiya and other areas.

Northern Municipality General Director Yousif Al Ghatam said, “Violators were given a notice period to remove their vehicles. As per the directives of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf, the campaign will commence in the next few days.”

He revealed that more than 1,000 abandoned vehicles were detected in different areas of the Northern Governorate in the first half of 2016.

Al Ghatam informed that the municipality had prepared open yards to collect the abandoned vehicles. “The owners would be allowed to retake their vehicles after paying fines to the municipality that cover the removal expenses.”

It’s noteworthy that similar campaigns had been launched in the past few years.
