Shooting at Bahrain weddings is illegal, officials

ManamaSecurity authorities have taken legal measures regarding a shooting incident during a traditional wedding ceremony in West Riffa on Friday.

The video of the incident went viral on social media, showing a man clad in national attire shooting several rounds from a rifle while dancing.

Commenting on the incident, the newly appointed Southern Governorate Police Director, Colonel Mubarak Abdulla Al Merri, said, “Legal steps have been taken in the case of a gunfire during a wedding that was shown in a circulated video.”

The footage showed the man shooting in the air from a rifle, while others were seen performing Ardha traditional dance (swords dance). Some of the people around the man were also seen covering their heads when he started the shooting.

Shooting in the air during weddings and national celebrations is a custom in various middle eastern countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Jordan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Iraq and many other countries.
