Rodent-infested pharmacy closed

ManamaClose on the heels of the social media reports that a pharmacy was infested with rodents, authorities yesterday inspected the pharmacy and shut down it until further notice.

In a press release, National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) confirmed that “the authority investigated what has been circulating on social media networks regarding a rodent-infested pharmacy in the Kingdom.”

NHRA Medicines Quality Assurance Consultant Hesham Al Awami said, “NHRA CEO Dr. Mariam Al Jalahma instructed the authority’s inspectors to inspect the pharmacy.” However Al Awami didn’t reveal the pharmacy’s name.

“During the inspection, rodents and pests were found in the pharmacy. The necessary administrational procedures have been taken. The pharmacy was closed until safety and security conditions are guaranteed,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Al Awami called upon the pharmacy owners to obey legal health and safety norms to assure public safety.

Similar cases had been detected in the past few years, but this is the first to occur in a pharmacy in the Kingdom.
