Asians jailed in drug case

ManamaThe fifteen years jail sentences of two Pakistanis have been upheld in connection with a drug case. They had been convicted of promoting heroin in Muharraq.

As per the court files, the defendants had been getting illicit drugs from a man named Adnan residing in Pakistan and then they would smuggle them into Bahrain.

They were reportedly transferring the money they raise to him through local exchange companies.

However, acting on a tip-off, police officers surveyed the area where they were active in distributing the drugs.

During the surveillance, the police saw the defendants hiding an object under a car tyre in a public car parking area in Muharraq. The police captured them and found a cigarette box in which heroin was stashed.

The defendants also had heroin capsules in their possession. Later during a raid, detectives seized BD1,170 and 6,290 Pakistani rupees (around BD22) from their apartment.

Each of the defendants was earlier fined BD5,000 by the High Criminal Court, which also ordered to deport them after the completion of their jail terms. This was confirmed by the Supreme Appeals Court.
