136 men trial begins in terror case

ManamaThe trial of 136 men belonging to a terror group began in the High Criminal Court yesterday. Among the accused, 86 men are in police custody and others are still at large, who will be tried in absentia. The men, who belong to a terror group “Kata’ed Abu Al Fiqar” (Abu Al Fiqar Battalions), have carried out 19 bombings across the Kingdom.

They have been charged with spying for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and a terrorist organisation in Iraq as well as possessing explosives and weapons. They pleaded not guilty, but the court ordered for their detention in police custody yesterday, adjourning the case until October 3.

According to the court documents, which were handed over to the judges in five cardboard boxes, the suspects had received instructions from officials in the Iranian regime and the Revolutionary Guard to unify their terrorist activities in Bahrain and merge under Abu Al Fiqar Battalions.

The individuals in the group were initially functioning in separate groups, but following the instructions from Tehran, they united under Abu Al Fiqar Battalions to plot attacks against Bahrain.

According to Prosecutors, the defendants were trained on arms and how to use explosives in Iran-based military camps owned by the Revolutionary Guard as well as in other ones in Iraq that were supervised by the same.
