Bahrain rioters jail sentence reduced

Manama : The jail terms of 17 defendants implicated in a riot case have been commuted. They were earlier handed down five years behind bars each. However their jail sentences were reduced to three years each.

The defendants were allegedly part of 150 masked protesters, who rioted on September 1, 2014 in Sitra.

The sabotage caused injuries to two police officers after they were hit with firebombs and iron rods. The suspects have been arrested following police investigations.

Prosecutors charged them with possessing flammables, disturbing public order and participating in illegal gathering.

Twenty-two defendants were earlier tried in connection with this case. But only the seventeen appellants submitted appeals against their sentences.
