Bahraini man gets jail for consuming drugs

Manama  : In a rare verdict, a Bahraini man was sentenced to two years in prison for consuming drugs albeit he was acquitted of allegedly selling 700 grams of hashish.

The accused was arrested in a sting operation in which he was caught while selling hashish to an undercover agent. The officer lured him into selling drugs by offering him BD800. They met in the defendant’s house, where the money and the drugs were exchanged.

Police officers also seized 700 grams of hashish from his house. However, the defendant’s lawyer argued the validity of the sting operation, stating that it was done without obtaining permission from the Public Prosecution.

She also pointed to his father’s testimony, in which he revealed that he had given his son BD800 to renovate his apartment. It’s worth noting that the defendant admitted to consuming drugs in the High Criminal Court, but denied the selling claims.
