Bank moves court to empty safe boxes

ManamaA local bank has approached the Court of Urgent Matters seeking approval for emptying nine safe deposit boxes as the owners failed to settle the annual fees of the service.

According to the bank, the boxes belong to individuals, corporates and an international bank in Bahrain. The fees were ranging between BD15 and BD40.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned until September 25 to re-announce the defendants. The plaintiff’s lawyer said that the boxes had been booked since the early nineties, but the defendants have failed to pay the annual fees recently.

“The bank wants the court to give it green signal to empty them,” said the lawyer. The number of defendants involved in this case are nine. They owe a total of BD3,200 to the bank.
