Bahraini man’s jail term reduced in wallets theft case

ManamaThe prison sentence of a Bahraini man convicted in a theft case has been reduced to three years on appeal by the High Criminal Appeals Court. He was earlier handed down five years behind bars.

According to the case, the accused, aged 26, stole two wallets from a car, and withdrew BD140 by using a credit card he got from one of the wallets.

The defendant and the car owner rented apartments in the same building.

“I rented an apartment in the building for one day and didn’t find a proper parking lot.

“So I left my car behind a vehicle and gave the key to the watchman. I requested him to move my car when the owner of the other vehicle comes,” the victim told prosecutors.

“Next day, the man moved my car, but the two wallets inside the car disappeared,” he added.

It’s reported that the defendant had spent the night in the apartment with an Asian woman. When the defendant opened the victim’s car to move it aside, he found the wallets inside.

“When I tried to ignite the engine I saw the wallets. I took them and then moved the car,” the defendant said.

He was captured after analysing the CCTV camera installed in the ATM that he had used.
