Manama Souq witnesses brisk business as schools reopen

ManamaWith Eid approaching and schools set to reopen, the next two weeks will be the busiest time of the year for Manama Souq, according to Mahmood Al Namliti, Manama Traditional Market Deputy Chairman.

The sale of stationery items and school bags are at its peak, as residents go shopping in preparation of school reopening. Vendors say they have been enjoying brisk business since the past week.

Speaking to DT News, Al Namliti explained that since Eid Al Adha is earlier this year and closer to the school reopening season, the rush has been higher than previous years. He expects the souq to be very busy in the coming two weeks. “The huge rush was expected as it is an annual trend. Besides, there are those on Eid shopping. Tailoring shops witness the most rush. We expect a surge in sale in the coming days.” he said.

Yunus, a vendor at the Souq, said that school bags are the most in-demand items. “Every year, new types of bags come out. Children are mostly attracted to bags with graphics of super heros or cartoon figures.” he said.

“Sales in the past several months have been quite dull, and it is great to see  things picking up. School reopening period and Eid season are good times for us. We are expecting to be busier than ever,” said Fareed, another vendor.

Most schools in the Kingdom are set to reopen in the next two weeks.
