Charity for a Cause

Manama : To markthe International Charity Day, DT News spoke to  Khalil Al Daylami, Chairman of  “Tree of Life Charity Society’ at Saar, who shared with us many  inspiring stories.

The Tree of Life Charity Society was established in 2012 and has now more than 600 well- qualified members. It extends its services in the fields of social welfare,  family, health, education and others.

Its board comprises of people from different professions. Khalil, himself is an architect.

“I think charity is not only about donating money to the needy. We give them care and love. We take them for outings to different places in Bahrain,” Al Daylami said.

“I remember once when we took the orphans to the Wahoo Waterpark. We split the team into four and I was one of the team leaders. There was a very vibrant  boy, who asked my name to which I replied. After a while, he came to me and asked whether he could call me ‘Abba’ (father). I was moved to tears”, said Khalil when asked about a memorable incident in his life.

When Tree of Life society started its first “Ramadan Basket” in  2012, it managed to distribute 187 kits to the needy families. This year they distributed close to 900 kits during Ramadan, thanks to the immense support of contributors.

The society held its first annual charity bazaar on 10th November 2012,  under the banner “Together for Good”. The event, which took place in Country Mall, Budaiya, attracted several charity organisations and individuals under one roof.

“Our society is different from other charitable institutions in Bahrain.  Unlike others, we serve and help everyone in the Kingdom if we find them in need. We do not segregate people. Our goal is to provide financial assistance or kindness to those deprived, while ensuring social commonness. We also assist students with financial aid to pursue their studies in coordination with the relevant governmental entities.”

The society provides medical assistance to patients for treatment in the Kingdom or abroad. It also assists in the construction and renovation of houses.

“We follow strict procedures to find out the beneficiary, including submission of forms like bank statements and other documents,” says the Chairman.
