Witnesses to be heard on October 15 in bribery case
Manama : The testimony of prosecution witnesses will be heard on October 15 in a bribery case.
A prison inmate and another defendant have been accused of attempting to bribe a police officer in exchange of smuggling drugs into the cell.
The inmate offered BD18,000 and a car in exchange of smuggling drugs, which the police officer refused.
The police officer initially said he would think about it, prompting the second defendant to increase the reward.
However, the officer later informed his superiors about the bribe attempt, and he was ordered to pretend accepting it.
A sting operation was eventually carried out, and the second defendant was arrested red-handed, trying to hand over the drugs to the police officer.
The man told prosecutors that he had received instructions from the inmate to bribe the police officer.
The duo’s trial began yesterday, but only the first defendant appeared before the High Criminal Court, entering a not guilty plea.
